ASK DEMCAD: Picking a Concealed Carry Pistol

By Reginald Kaigler (DEMCAD)

My name is Reginald Kaigler and I have documented my journey as a prepper on my Youtube channel(DEMCAD. I acquired my CPL (Concealed Pistol License) in the state of Michigan in the year 2011 and I've been conceal carrying my Glock 21everyday since. And by everyday, I mean, absolutely everyday. When I leave my house, I carry my Glock. I don't carry if I'm just going to the car or mowing the lawn.

Comment from Pallyforyou (on Youtube)

Demcad, I am on a budget and I would like to get a pistol. The problem is that I know a full size pistol like a sig 226 or glock 17 is better for a shtf or home defense situation but I don't think I would carry it concealed very consistantly, So is it better to buy a small compact or subcompact like a keltec pf9 or kahr cm9, or just get a full size?

I would not recommend Keltec. I'm concerned about their consistency. I would consider a (Glock 19 Gen 3, not Gen 4 because I am concerned about the consistency of that generation). It's a compact 9mm with 15 rounds. It is extremely reliable. It will shoot just about anything style of ammo. I would also recommend you go to a shooting range that allows you to rent guns out. Try some full size guns, compacts and sub-compact pistols and see what you like. Consider the Smith ans Wesson M&P compact and Springfield XD series.

I know you have a budget, but this pistol has to be reliable. Your life may depend on it. I like to conduct a lot of research on the guns before I even enter the store. You can't rely on a salesman to give you proper information.

Here is my criteria.

Reliability
Service Record
Reasonable Accuracy
Ammo Availability
Magazine Availability
Parts Availability

If you can't find the ammo in stores, how can you practice with it on a regular basis? If you have to pay 60 dollars per magazine, how many magazines will you end up buying? If it jams every other time you go to the range, how do you know it won't jam when you need it the most?

I prefer pistols that have been proven in the field of law enforcement and military. I understand that you are on a budget, but I recommend that you save your money for a gun you can really trust. Put a pistol on layaway if you want. I recommend you try the guns out for yourself. Get a CPL in your state (if you can), research the laws and enjoy.

Never Waste A Crisis: Obama's Exectuive Orders on Guns

By Reginald Kaigler (DEMCAD)

Never waste a crisis.

And that is exactly what Obama, the Democrats and the anti-Second Amendment crowd is doing. They have manufactured a crisis by making the shootings at Sandy hook and the Aurora Theater seem like a social epidemic. They insist that assault rifles are to blame. Naturally, they have ignored the inconsistencies in the cases, changing media narrative, contractions among officials and the elephant in the room.

The elephant being the fact that violent crime and homicides have dropped by almost 50% since 1990, while gun sales (of handguns and semi-auto rifles like the AR-15 that was allegedly used at Sandy Hook) have been soaring. America is selling more AKM, AR-15, pistols and other guns than ever before and the country is safer.

According to the FBI, more people are killing with knives than all of the rifles combined (that includes so called assault rifles like the semi-auto AR-15 and AKM). Actually, more people were killed with fist and legs than rifles.

So now we have the anti-gun people on the march to limit magazine capacities, ban importation of semi-auto rifles and slowly strip the Second Amendment to point where we have nothing but sling shots to protect ourselves from tyranny.

Many mainstream media talking heads and politicians are calling this the Post-Sandy Hook world. But in reality, nothing has changed. The establishment is as anti-gun as they were before the event. And the worst mass shooting always happen in so called gun free zones, areas that the law forbids citizens from carrying firearms. Consequently, the drugged out psychos choose these locations to murder innocent people.

So what can we do to fight this?

The NRA and other gun rights advocates are holding a nation wide rally at the State Capitol buildings on January 19th, 2013.

Frankly, I've been video blogging about Operation Fast and Furious since may 2011, warning people about this grave injustice and radical attempt to blame gun owners for assault rifle violence. In October 2009, Obama and Eric Holder's ATF started an operation to encourage gun dealers to sell AK rifles to Mexican criminals so they could track the weapons and use them to bring down the cartels. the problem is that the ATF didn't track the guns and they ended up at the murder scenes of over 150 people including U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. But few in the youtube gun community showed any interest. most were interested in doing gun and gear reviews with absolutely no interest in spreading this information.

The gun community and the Tea party should have forced Romney out of the presidential reality show and marginalized Obama on this idea by making Fast and Furious a big issue, but they didn't and now we are in crisis mode.

Obama is working on a series of executive orders to target gun owners.

Here are some possible focus points led out by the Center For American Progress.

Require broader reporting of multiple sales of assault rifles
Begin the process of the FBI absorbing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms,
and Explosives (because the ATF has lost all credibility after trying to frame gun owners with their disastrous Operation Fast and Furious.)

Congress could do the following.

Reregulate assault weapons
Ban high-capacity gun magazines

I hope January 19th, 2013 rally serves as a platform for a coordinated response to this latest attack on the Constitution, because I assure you that the anti-gun crowd will never waste a crisis.

Sandy Hook Tragedy Used For Gun Control?

By Reginald Kaigler (DEMCAD)

Days after a mentally unstable man stole an AR-15 rifle and two pistols from his mother and went on a shooting spree that resulted in the deaths of at least 20 children and 6 adults, politicians are calling for gun control. Despite the fact that the man acquired the guns illegally and violated the so called gun free zone to kill innocent people, Democrats are now coming for more gun control.

Currently, the law makes it illegal for anyone (including principals, teachers and parents) to bring firearms onto school property. Unfortunately, the mass shooter decided to ignore that law and therefore enjoyed a target rich environment with defenseless victims.

Instead of Congress acknowledging the failure of the so called no gun zone laws, they have doubled on a new call for even more gun control. Apparently, Obama and the Democrats are convinced that new laws will deter criminal behavior. But I don't think an assault rifle ban is about making people safer. it's about control. The mainstream media and the politicians are looking to restrict liberty. They are not interested in empowering anyone but themselves. And now we're seeing people's true colors.

Fake conservative Joe Scarborough (yeah, one of Mitt Romney's cheerleaders) is now calling for gun control.

"our Bill of Rights does not guarantee gun manufacturers the absolute right to sell military-styled high-caliber semi-automatic combat assault rifles with high capacity magazines to whoever the hell they want."

 Let's review the U.S. constitution.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The second amendment is not about hunting or sports. It's about making the government recognize the people's natural right to defend themselves from tyranny (i.e. Nazi Germany and Soviet Union.)

Online retailer Cheaper Than Dirt! has suspended sales of firearms.

"Cheaper Than Dirt! has temporarily suspended online sales of firearms. As a long time supporter of the Second Amendment, Cheaper Than Dirt! will continue to promote the safe and responsible use of firearms by law abiding customers. During this temporary suspension, we will review our policies and promotions."

They're not the only ones. Look at Walmart and Dick's Sporting Goods pulling certain types of guns off of the shelves in some stores.

Here's a message from Dick's Sporting Goods.

“We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community.”
“Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide.”

So their response is to make it more difficult for law abiding citizens to defend themselves, because a psycho shot a lot of unarmed people who couldn't defend themselves. Think it through, Dick!

Gun owners now have an opportunity to see who is really a supporter of the second amendment and who's just lying. A lof of so called pro gun Democrats are revealing their true colors and I think we'll see if the Republican Party really is pro-second amendment. 2012 GOP Presidential nominee Mitt Romney actually signed an assault rifle ban in Massachusetts. So will the House Republicans cave or stand their ground? Will the American people publish law abiding gun owners? I remain pessimistic.

In closing, the same politicians and media types who sold us out with the banker bailout (TARP), are the same ones who supported the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, National Defense Authorization Act and now possibly a new assault rifle ban. So I'll leave you with my favorite quote. And I don't care if it's a perfect quote from Benjamin Franklin or not. True words have never been spoken.

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Another Gun Free Zone FAILURE!

By Reginald Kaigler (DEMCAD)

Sadly, we can add one more nation to the long list of failures for the so called gun free zones. These are areas that government officials have declared gun free areas. In other words, no law abiding citizen is allowed to bring a firearm into these areas. Predicatively, these are also the areas that mass shooters choose to kill people. Recently, a man used two handguns and a 223 rifle to shot and murder 20 children and 6 adults at an elementary school in Connecticut.

So do gun free zones actually work?

Let's see...

Columbine gun-free zone!
Virginia Tech gun free zone!
Amish school gun free zone!
Sikh temple shooting!
Aurora Theater gun free zone!
Oregon Mall gun free zone!
Connecticut school gun free zone!

We don't need more gun control. There's not need in trying to restrict the gun rights of good people, because the bad ones will never obey the law. We need to empower more good people to stand up to the bad ones by removing gun free zones.

Water is the Most Important Aspect of Prepping

By Reginald Kaigler (DEMCAD)

The moist air is thick and heavy. The city's asphalt streets sizzle. Another scorching hot day in Flint, Michigan. But this heat wave is just the beginning of 2012's second temperature surge. The first heat wave knocked out power systems across the Eastern U.S. and left thousands of temperature records along the waist-side. This summer has been one for the record books. But it has also awaken my core survival instincts. For the first time in my journey as a prepper, I realized that my priorities were not correctly aligned. For too long, I have endulged my fascination with firearms to the point that I have failed to see what represents the greatest threat in a crisis situation: dehydration.

In all likelihood, I will die of dehydration before I am forced into a gun fire. And since I already have six guns, how can I justify buying another one when my water preparation is so weak.

Although, I have 6 five gallon containers filled with tap water, four cases of bottled water, a Katadyn Water filter and several packs of purifying tablets, an honest assessment of my supplies would force me to conclude that this would not be enough for a family of three to survive on for very long. This summer of unbearable  heat has forced me to re-examine how prepared I really am for a situation were I would have to produce my own clean water.

Let's keep in mind that many modern water systems rely on electric pumps to force water to millions of homes. If the electrical system is compromised, then millions of Americans may find themselves in a situation were they will have to boil, purify or filter their own water.

So I've decided to take action. A friend on youtube suggested I build a sand bio filter to remove germs from the water in the nearby creek. The concept is brillantly simple. You use fine sand in a 55 gallon barrel to filter viruses and harmfully substances from the water. But the top level of water serves as a natural bio system by using good bacteria to destroy bad bacteria.

It's a good idea, but it's not for me. Filling a 55 gallon barrel would be problematic for an urbanite such as myself, because it would be very difficult to move. So I've decided to invest in a Berkey Water system. It's light weight and it uses a carbon filter to remove virtually any harmful biological organism. I've also decided get some water containers that are not clear. The idea is to protect the water from the effects of sunlight. I'm also going to expand into trapping rainwater.

There's nothing wrong with owning a lot of guns, but if you don't have any water, your body will break down very fast. Water makes almost everything easier. You need water. I need water and more of it. In an emergency situation, I will need water to cook food, washing my body, stay hydrated, prevent infection and possibly keep someone's body temperature down. So I'll still buy another pistol this year, but not before I make sure I can filter hundreds of gallons of water.
